Nestled in the heart of scenic Brown County, Mt. Sterling Lake offers an enchanting escape into nature’s embrace. The bike and nature trails wind through a picturesque landscape, where lush forests meet the tranquil shores of the glistening lake. Whether you’re an avid cyclist seeking an exhilarating ride or a nature enthusiast craving serenity, Mt. Sterling Lake’s trails promise an unforgettable journey through the beauty of the natural world.

Mt. Sterling Lake

Mt. Sterling Lake is located 1.5 miles outside of Mt. Sterling and offers both tent and RV camping. The facility has 48 camping slips equipped with electrical hookups.


The Lake is open and available for camping April 1st – December 1st.


Electrical hookup site: $15/day
Tent camping: $10/night
Monthly rates are also available

All fees can be paid to the lake host, at city hall or left in the drop box at the building near the lake entrance.

Clark Park: As you take Main Street onto Damon Road in Mt. Sterling, the course will be located on the right after you pass Joel Oliver Pool.

Mt. Sterling Lake

Mt. Sterling Lake offers fishing and a boat ramp for (electric trolling motors only) boat access. No swimming or wading is allowed in the lake. 


The Lake is open and available for fishing April 1st – December 1st.


Boat: $5/day or $25/year
No fee for canoes & kayaks; no fees to fish

All fees can be paid to the lake host, at city hall or left in the drop box at the building near the lake entrance.

Spunky Bottoms

Access to the preserve is restricted due to restoration activities, ongoing scientific research and a public waterfowl hunting program. For additional information or permission to visit the area, contact TNC’s office in Lewistown at 309-547-2730

Permitted recreational activities at Spunky Bottoms include:

  • Canoeing/kayaking
  • Fishing
  • Bird watching
  • Hiking
  • Limited waterfowl hunting opportunities

TNC staff recommends wearing appropriate clothing to visit a wet area and applying mosquito and tick repellent.

The use of Other Power Driven Mobility Devices (OPDMD)s (utility vehicles, ATVs, Segways, golf carts, etc.) on this property has been assessed in accordance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations. OPDMDs are prohibited.

Brown County Little League

Where young athletes build skills, friendships, and memories that last a lifetime. Our league welcomes players from T-Ball through Majors, offering a comprehensive developmental pathway for children of all ages and abilities.

For our youngest players just starting out in T-Ball, it’s all about learning the fundamentals of the game in a fun and supportive environment. As players progress, they move through our instructional and minor leagues, where they hone their skills and develop a deeper understanding of the game under the guidance of experienced coaches.

In our Majors division, players showcase their talents and compete at a higher level, preparing them for future success both on and off the field. Along the way, our league emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and the importance of giving it your all, win or lose.

To enhance your kayaking or canoeing experience, we provide a dedicated launch area designed specifically for easy entry and exit from the water. Whether you’re a seasoned paddler or a first-time explorer, our serene lake and well-equipped facilities make it effortless to embark on your aquatic adventure.

Scan the QR code at the station to unlock your kayak or SUP. Paddles and lifejackets are included. 

Enjoy your paddle!

Wear your lifejacket  at at all times while on the water. 

Return your equipment

Bring your equipment back to the station. Select “Unlock” in the App to return the equipment. 

Rental fees are minimum of $25 for 2 hours plus $15 for every hour over that.
